As you approach St. George Island from the Bryant Patton Bridge, you are arriving at the center of St. George Island Gulf Beaches and the recently reconstructed St. George Island Lighthouse. On either side of the boulevard, there are three blocks of commercial and mixed-use property, then two miles in either direction of platted lots zoned for single family residences. This area is often referred to as “the old subdivision” as it is the part of the island first developed in the 1950’s and 1960’s. All residential lots are approximately one-third acre, and the homes an eclectic mix of small cottages and large homes. Access to the beach in the Gulf Beaches is extremely well-planned, with 8-foot wide pedestrian easements between each and every beachfront lot, and 60 to 100-foot wide easements at the end of each block, most with wooden boardwalks. Along the entire 5-mile stretch is a wide public beach.
